Mortal Shell II Mushroom Village Key
The item players search for as the Mortal Shell II Mushroom Village Key is called the Chapel Key in the release guides. At Nighttime, travel right from the Mushroom Village Beacon, cross toward the large bonfire, pass through the small arch, then look back through it to reveal a kneeling statue holding the key. It opens the Shrine of Trials route, not the nearby cage or the Lonely Resident’s house.
Set the correct world state
The detailed AllThings. How route specifies Nighttime. Change the world state before travelling so the hidden-statue interaction matches the guide. Starting at the Mushroom Village Beacon also makes the right and left route descriptions unambiguous.
If the statue does not appear, first confirm Nighttime and that you crossed the correct freestanding arch. Standing beside it is not enough; the reveal uses your viewing direction.
Reach the archway
From the Beacon, take the right-hand path. Pass the dancing Babka area and continue over the rope bridge toward the large pyre or bonfire. Clear the witches or Babka enemies around the clearing so you can inspect the landmark safely.
Look for a small arch near the side with steps. The arch itself can seem empty, which is why players miss the item even after reaching the correct clearing.
Reveal the key statue
Walk through the arch, then turn around and look back through its opening. The hidden kneeling statue should appear. Approach the statue and interact with the key or the nearby hanging-rope interaction described by the sources.
The important sequence is cross, turn, and look back. Do not simply circle the outside of the arch. If the state does not trigger, step away, repeat the crossing, and keep the arch in view.
Where to use the Chapel Key
Return to the Mushroom Village Beacon. This time take the left route through the short passage into the Grisha Hunter camp. Pass the cage and continue toward the large building at the end.
Use the Chapel Key on the locked wooden door. The route behind it leads into the Shrine of Trials, where combat, an illusion wall, and pressure-plate puzzles stand between you and the final reward.
Shrine reward
Multiple collected guides connect completion of the Shrine of Trials with Axe and Dagger. The key is therefore the first step in a longer chain: reveal key, open chapel, finish shrine, claim weapon.
If you are already inside the dungeon, use the Sanctuary of Trials guide for the backward-walk illusion and movable-statue rooms. This item page stops at the correct door so the route is easy to scan.
Chapel Key versus Cage Key
The cage in the Hunter camp uses a different Cage Key. GamesRadar reports that a nearby trader sells it. The Chapel Key cannot substitute for it, and the Cage Key does not open the Shrine.
Keep the two inventory names separate when following videos. “Village key” is ambiguous community wording; the release item and destination identify which key a guide means.
Not the resident’s house key
The Lonely Resident’s knockable door is another separate Mushroom Village interaction. Current verified evidence does not provide a key or opening method for that house. Do not attack it or bring the Chapel Key expecting the Shrine route to trigger there.
This distinction prevents three nearby searches from becoming one false walkthrough: Chapel Key, Cage Key, and resident door.
If the statue does not appear
Verify Nighttime, return to the Beacon, and repeat the right-hand route so the starting direction matches the guide. Clear the bonfire area, identify the small standalone arch, walk fully through it, and then turn to view the opening. Looking from the wrong side can prevent the intended reveal.
Do not search the ground for a normal glowing pickup before triggering the statue. The source sequence makes the reveal interaction the important step.
If the key does not open a door
Check the item name in inventory. The Chapel Key belongs at the large building beyond the cage in the Grisha Hunter camp. The Cage Key belongs to the cage, and no verified key opens the resident’s knockable house.
Return to the Mushroom Village Beacon before following the left route. Approaching an unrelated locked object elsewhere in the village does not mean the key failed.
Key route checklist
- World state set to Nighttime.
- Right route taken from Mushroom Village Beacon.
- Rope bridge and large bonfire reached.
- Small arch crossed, then viewed from the opposite side.
- Kneeling statue revealed and Chapel Key collected.
- Returned to Beacon and took left route.
- Passed the cage to the building at the camp’s end.
- Chapel Key used on the Shrine door.
- Shrine completed for Axe and Dagger.
This sequence is the complete sourced use chain and keeps the three nearby key or door questions separate.
Route summary
The solution is a viewing puzzle followed by a return trip: Nighttime, right from the Beacon, bridge, bonfire, arch, cross and look back, collect Chapel Key, return to the Beacon, then go left through the Hunter camp to the Shrine door. The item is not a random drop and does not belong to the cage.
Once the correct door opens, the key’s job is finished. Continue with the Shrine puzzle guide rather than searching Mushroom Village for another use.
